This app will help you satisfy your craving for those magical Girl Scout Cookies by searching and finding sales in and around your neighborhood. You can choose to use either your Android device’s GPS or manual search by ZIP code or city. Click on the closest spot in the search results and map yourself directly there. You can also share the sale time/location via Facebook, Twitter, or email, or even add it to your Google calendar.
There are also some bonus features in the app as well, including the silly “cookie personality” profile. Since my favorite Girl Scout Cookies are Samoas, apparently I am brainy, complex, and mysterious!

Foodspotting is a new way to share your favorite dishes. Unlike Yelp and other restaurant review websites, this app puts the emphasis on images and short description snip-its.
If you’re trying to decide what to eat, this app gives you the visual cues to find what you’re craving. You can browse dish images based on three category filters; nearest, latest, and best. Simply slide through the roll of images until you see something you like.
Toggle between image and map mode with the icon in the top right of the screen. When in map mode, you can adjust the map window and re-scan for foods in the current area. This is a very handy feature, especially if you know where you’ll be when lunch/dinner time comes around.
If you discover a great new restaurant or want to share your favorite dish with the world, use the photo upload option. All you have to do is select the restaurant, the type of food, and any comments you’d like to add along with your picture. Additionally, you can choose to share with your friends on Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, or Flickr.

- Methods of browsing more than a single image at a time would improve usability

Browse, Record, Watch Your Favorite Shows w/ Xfinity TV
Xfinity TV lets you find your favorite shows and movies, control your TV, and schedule DVR recordings.

The Xfinity TV Android app requires that you have 1) a current Comcast ID/password, 2) compatible cable box, for TV and DVR control, and 3) WiFi or 3G connection.
Initial setup is very quick. Login with your Comcast ID/password and the app will automatically detect any eligible DVR devices. At this point, an on-screen message will appear on your TV(s) displaying the name(s) you have assigned. This way you can control multiple DVR cable boxes if necessary.
The app makes it extremely easy to browse TV listings for your specific area, browse and search On Demand listings, and filter content by genre, network, HD, free, etc. You can even change channels or start watching an On Demand movie directly from the app. Because On Demand can be clunky and difficult to navigate, the option to browse from your Android device is rather refreshing.
Unlike the other Xfinity Mobile Android app, Xfinity TV’s interface is much more user-friendly and responsive (less lag and shorter loading times). However, there are some issues that need to be ironed out before this app meets its full potential.
Pros:
- Browse TV listings, On Demand offerings, and more from your Android device
- Schedule DVR recordings of your favorite shows, movies, etc.
- Convenient results filtering and search options
Areas for improvement:
- Currently doesn’t return an error if you’re already recording the maximum number of shows at a single time and try to add another
- Reduce the 16MB application limit to support more Android devices
Conclusion: A useful, convenient Android app for Comcast/Xfinity TV subscribers.
Protect Your Android Device w/ Webroot Mobile Security
Webroot Mobile Security protects your Android device from a wide range of threats and can even help when your device is lost or stolen.

Webroot is a powerful internet security solution that has now been brought to Android.
The first essential function is the Antivirus scan. You can setup Webroot to automatically scan any new app as it is installed as well as any newly downloaded or modified files. Full scans can also be scheduled to occur hourly, daily, or weekly.
Second, the Lost Device Protection is a feature you’ll hopefully never need to use. First, setup a password that you are sure to remember. Then, fill your buddy list with trusted friends/family who you’d like to be sent a temporary password if you forget yours. If your device is ever lost or stolen, you can use the following commands:
- lock [your password] - Locks your Android device and prevent unauthorized use (only your Webroot password will unlock it).
- wipe [your password] - Wipes SD card, contacts, calendar entries, call log, browser bookmarks and history, SMS messages, all secondary email accounts, and the password of the primary Gmail account.
- locate [your password] - Sends a link to Google Maps with phone’s current location.
- scream [your password] - Blasts a screaming noise from your lost or stolen device.
Third, Secure Web Browsing prevents malicious websites from opening in the Android browser. Similar to Google Chrome, if you attempt to enter a site that turns out to be suspicious, an alert pops up giving you the options to block it or continue.
Lastly, Call/SMS Blocking does just that, by enabling you to filter calls and text messages received from unwanted numbers.
Pros:
- Complete package of security features to protect your Android device and personal information
- Antivirus scans, lost device protection, secured web browsing, and call/SMS blocking
- Easy setup and customization with minimal management required
- GPS location function much more accurate than many other Android security apps
Areas for Improvement:
- Ability to perform command functions via the web, including option to backup SD card and files before performing a wipe
