JuiceDefender will help you save battery power (by leaps and bounds) by controlling your data connection and/or WiFi.  You’ll be amazed at the improvement a simple app can really make!

JuiceDefender allows you to save battery life by scheduling regular APN (data connection) and WiFi activation.  Note: this still allows background data syncing for things like Gmail and Twitter app notifications.  And don’t worry, when the screen is on your APN/WiFi connection won’t be disrupted.

In Easy Mode you simply enable the app by pressing the big Enable button and let JuiceDefender do the rest!  However, if you’d prefer more stringent control to configure features exactly to your liking, you’ll need to access the Advanced Mode. In this mode, you’ll have the ability to control:

  • Schedule: APN/WiFi interval of activation
  • Night: APN/WiFi disabled during night time
  • Traffic: Keep connection intact until data transfers are completed
  • Battery: Disable APN/WiFi when battery gets below a specific %
  • Charger: Keep APN/WiFi enabled when phone is being charged
  • Screen: Keep APN/WiFI enabled when screen is on
  • Location: Disable APN/WiFi when phone is not in range of a known WiFi network
  • Timeout: Distinct timeouts for automatic screen off and device locking
Control factors in red are only available in the paid version.  Also, the free version only allows control over APN connection, not WiFi.  The above control factors are listed in order of priority, so Schedule takes precedence over Night and anything below it.  Also, if you have WiFi turned off in the first place, all of these control factors will be ignored because it’s not on in the first place, so it’s not wasting any battery.
Additionally, there is a widget that will show you a multiplier of the amount of battery life you have saved.  Also, there is a one-click button widget for toggling APN status on and off.  This may be useful if you’re roaming and want to avoid any unnecessary charges.
Verdict:
JuiceDefender is an app that you won’t believe you lived without.  You will be impressed by the amount of battery that you actually save, and might even consider buying the paid version!

      I think it really comes to how you use your phone. First off, lengthening the interval length between APN activation (3G internet) which updates your notifications (e.g. Twitter, email, weather) will likely give you the greatest increase in battery life. Start there and see how it works for you!
