Top Android App: Smooth Calendar Widget

Top Android App: Smooth Calendar Widget

The stock Google Calendar widget just wasn’t doing it for me anymore.  A great calendar widget needs to look clean, display multiple upcoming events, and have added functionality.  Smooth Calendar brings you all of this and more.

Version: 0.9.5

Smooth Calendar is a simple and attractive calendar widget.  Because you have an Android phone setup with your Google account, the widget will sync your calendars automatically.  As for options, you choose which calendars you’d like it to display, the number of days you’d like it to check for events, whether you want 1 or 3 events displayed, and more.  There are some further customizations offered, but even more would be preferred (i.e. ability to change color and size of widget for starters).

In order to access some basic features, tap the calendar.  This will give you the option to refresh the calendar, open the full Google Calendar, and setup configuration settings.

There isn’t a whole lot more to say about this app other than it gets the job done.  It is one of the best calendar widgets currently offered and looks great on the home screen.  Try it out!

  2. There is a similar widget in the HTC Widget list on the HTC Desire HD, which has a much nicer and more polished look.

I politely disagree. The HTC calendar widget (on my phone at least) does not have the same functionality. It either shows one event (not very useful) or takes up the entire home screen (huge!) And the HTC widget has few customization options.

Personally, I like that this is compact enough to fit on my home screen yet still shows my next three appointments. It also let’s me choose which of my google calendars to show events for. It also lets you do things like skip “all day” events from the list, so you only get the next three time-sensitive events on the screen. I don’t think the HTC widget looks any more polished than this simple, clean design.

Anyway, the small foot print (just one row) and clean interface work well on my home screen. Keep up the good work!

  4. can you add weekday?

  5. Decent app. More UI customization would be nice- a few font and icon choices etc. The app completely ate my battery way more than it should for the functionality. =/

  7. I somehow changed how it looks and cannot get it back!
My list of things used to be listed down the whole page, now it lists them only in a small part and in very small font…
