Labelbox Android App, Funky Photo Labeler

Labelbox Android App, Funky Photo Labeler

The Labelbox Android app lets you add creative touches to new and existing photos by affixing tapes of custom labels to them.

  • Version: 1.0.5
  • Size: 5.63MB (apps2SD enabled)
  • Category: Photography
  • Price: Free

Labelbox is the perfect app to add personality and flair to otherwise plain and ordinary photos. To get started, click the arrow tab on the bottom of the screen to access the app’s options toolbar. From here you can browse through the list of 9 available (free) labels including candy, rainbow, plastic, stamp, masking it, label, steply blue, blossom, and tricolor. There are also 4 additional label types you can unlock for $0.99; fabric, camouflage, polka dots, and floral.

Use the camera icon in the toolbar to either open an existing photo from your Android gallery or take a new picture with the camera. Then, select the label type you’d like to use and swipe across the picture where you’d like for it to appear. This will automatically launch your on-screen keyboard so that you can add text to the label. If you make a mistake and want to delete a label, just long-press it until it disappears. Or if you’d like to clear all labels, just shake your Android device. In general, there was some room for improvement on the label editing options which you can see in the “areas for improvement” listed below.

If you’d like to share your newly labeled image, you’ll need to sign-in or sign-up for a Steply account (possible within the app) which lets you configure all of your image sharing networks (Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Flickr, etc.) into one manageable service. For those of us who only use Facebook or Twitter, your best bet is to save the new image to your Android gallery and then share it from there.

Pros:

  • Add custom designed labels to your photos
  • Easily edit existing pictures or ones just captured
  • Share to all image services at once with Steply

Areas for improvement:

  • Ability to move, rotate, and otherwise edit labels after they’re added
  • Make toolbar oriented for portrait mode to be consistent with on-screen keyboard for label text
  • More labels would improve app’s long-term usability

Conclusion: Labelbox provides an entertaining and inventive method for enhancing your photos with artsy labels and custom text.
